The Hampton Classic was the biggest horse show on Long Island. It marked the end of the summer show season and the end of a magical summer for Denise and Me Too. They did very well that day, taking an 8th place ribbon over fences in a class with over 30 very fancy horses and they had every reason to celebrate. What they didn’t know until the end of the day was that it was their last day together.
It was a bitterly cold day on Long Island. There was snow everywhere. All we knew was that we were looking for a lady named Pat who lived on a particular street, no farm name, no house number. We found Pat standing in her driveway. She said she sold Me Too a couple of years ago. She didn’t know where Me Too was now, but she gave us the flyer she had from when she was selling her. It appeared as though we had reached a dead end.
Pat called about six weeks later and wanted to know if we were still interested in Me Too. Denise bought the pony sight unseen. Their reunion was magical. Their favorite thing to do was to relax after a ride by sitting together in a big round hay bale. And, yes, Me Too, still loved to eat cookies. Mrs. Pastures were her favorites.
